February 2015

After a mild, open January we got winter back the 1st of February. That’s alright, we certainly need the moisture.

India and Ethiopia’s new crop Nigerseed is being harvested and cleaned. Exports should begin this month—we’ll see it around the end of March, first of April. Hopefully the price will ease down.

Good, heavy black oil sunflower, good white, bright safflower, and good, heavy malting barley continue to command a premium. Don’t be fooled by a “too-good-to-be-true” price of a “FAC” (fair average crop) commodity. It’s generally a way to sell lower grade grain that birds don’t prefer and ends up being wasted. Remember, you can’t fool the birds!
